 Communing with Nature
« Thread Started on Mar 8, 2009, 10:36pm »

A day an a half later Crisis awoke. She took a long hot bath and almost felt normal again as she considered what she should do. The fete was over as was the merchant's faire. She no longer had a stall thanks to the mage that had attacked her and as a result had stopped teaching the children with no place to practice her story-telling. The Broken Shield no longer needed her services since brawls seemed to break out every time she played. The only task left to her was the fortifying of the flora and that was for personal reasons. Her prospects had dried up in Graycastle so it was time to move on. The Prince would have little time for for entertainment though there was one last task she would perform for him.

Slowly she traced her route toward the huge castle that loomed over the city playing the wind on her dark harp. She stopped at each tree and placed a hand against it standing for a few moments here and a minute or more there as she felt her way through their long salutations. Small mammals chattered at her from the brush. She paused at a brown spot in the turf and smiled as it began to green with her song.

Eventually she reached the gates of the castle and passed through as dusk fell. The guards did not search her nor even stop her for it was obvious she was working and would not brook any delays in her task as she headed along the oath toward the servant's entrance she had used six days before.

Like a shadow the young elf stalked his prey, clothed in dark brown and green leathers it probably wouldn't have been to difficult to slip from shadow to shadow unnoticed his prey seemed preoccupied. But the elf was not one to do his job half-assed, so he wove around her as careful and patient as if he was preparing an attack, looking for when his prey would be most vulnerable before a strike.

Fëanáro watched a small smile played across his face as she stopped at each tree she passed, giving each a blessing, before heading on. At one particularly large tree that had brown spots in it's turf, the elf managed to hide himself within it's branches. A chattering squirrel took a seat on his unmoving shoulder as he watched the dark skinned elf make her way into the castle the smile never leaving his face as she vanished. Then the young elf relaxed back into the tree taking up a comfortable position that gave him a good view of the temple. From their he would watch and wait as the little animal took a nap on his slowly moving chest.

She walked through the guards on the kitchen with a glare when they suggested to search her. Walking through the kitchen and down into the cellars for the wine, she refused to meet anyone's eye. The Wine Steward started to protest but quieted when she fixed a steel grey eye on him and just held out her hand for the key.

Descending tge stairs in darkness that her sight allowed her to navigate she listened to the skittering and squeaks of the vermin that lived beneath the castle. Seating herself on the cold stone floor she kept the harp in its case to perserve the strings from the cool and slightly damp air. After a moment she began to sing.

At first nothing, then slowly the mice and rats began to creep toward her. Changing her song to a querying tone, a few responses could be heard. The query and answers continued for about a half cnadlemark minutes. She rose slowly scattering the now wide circle of vermin as she did. Reaching into her pack, she scattered the seeds, nuts and meat she had gathered in payment and walked up the stairs.

Blinking as she came into the light of the fires of the kitchen from the dark cellar, she looked around, and saw a portion of the staff standing near the door with their mouths open. She nodded to the steward once, handed him the key and walked from the kitchen again. She spent the better part of that evening walking to and from the castle along various roads and alley pausing to sing to a tree or bush here or pass the time with a bird or mammal there. Finally she returned to the castle this time heading for the rooms of the trade negotiator from her erstwhile house.

He was not in but she was admitted when she mentioned she just needed a place to rest and write for a few candlemarks. After only a candle mark and halfway to the second one, she rose, blotted her missive and left in search of Kain or the family butler. She knew now what, how and who had placed the poison in the cups. She knew who had coerced the culprit and how, but nothing more than that. She hoped it would be enough to start the brothers looking in the right places.

Kain was nowhere to be found so she left document with the butler along with a sealed letter that held a magical as well as a wax seal for Kain. She found herself hoping to hear his voice as she walked from the castle, through the courtyard and toward the arena area and the stables where Barra waited. But none of the brothers seemed to be around. Some were most likely in negotiations again with her brother. One had to be in the throne room holding court and the fourth could be anywhere. With one last backward glance over her shoulder, she passed through the gates of the castle.
